What is Bagasse? How is it used to make tableware?

Bagasse is the pulpy residue that is left over after juice is extracted from sugarcane. It is obtained in large quantities in countries such as Brazil, Vietnam, China, and Thailand, where sugar production is generally high. The fibrous portion becomes a waste product after the juices are separated. This is where the production of tableware takes place. Bagasse that usually ends up in a landfill is recycled or used to make usable and sustainable tableware pieces. Since it is considered a waste product, it requires no additional resources to produce but makes the world's best disposable plates! 

Why is bagasse being used for the production of tableware?

The reasons are simple: In comparison with other materials, bagasse is more eco-friendly and sustainable as it can be composed easily. The material has a longer lifespan than other materials and can be used to make perfect biodegradable and compostable plates, bowls, dinnerware sets, and containers. Additionally, tableware made of bagasse is very hygienic.

The process

To make the compostable Bagasse dinnerware, the process starts with the repurposed Bagasse material. The material arrives at the manufacturing facility as wet pulp. The wet pulp is then converted to a dry pulpboard after being pressed in a beating tank. After the wet pulp has been converted to a dry pulp board, the substance is mixed with an anti-oil and anti-water agent in a Pulper to make the substance sturdier. Once blended, the mixture is piped into a Preparation Tank and then the molding machines. The molding machines instantaneously press the mixture into the shape of a bowl or plate. The finished bowls and plates are then tested for oil and water resistance. Only after the bowls and plates pass those tests can they be packaged and ready for consumers.
