      Famous JFK's Waffles with Strawberries

Presidents Day is always celebrated on the third Monday in February. And for most of us, Presidents Day means little more than a long weekend. Wouldn't it be fun to step back in time and celebrate President's Day with foods of the era? Even better, popular foods of our past Presidents and other political figures? American food is one big stew pot of cultures, influences, and tastes - that is part of what makes it so much fun to cook! So for this year's celebration, we decided to honor John Fitzgerald Kennedy by preparing his favorite dessert. Famous JFK's Waffles with Strawberries. After all, waffles are super easy, and the combinations are endless. Plus, this recipe is easy enough that the kids could make it on their own.

And that's not all - we have one more phenomenal idea of how to honor Presidents Day this year. George Washington

George Washington reportedly drank between four and five glasses of wine a day. What would he eat to accompany all that wine? He was said to be nuts for nuts. Washington had a yen for nuts of various kinds, including hazelnuts. He also loved a wide variety of fruits (especially cherries) and fish, and he preferred simple meals over fancy ones.

      Abraham Lincoln

There seem to be lots of opinions about what Lincoln liked to eat but little verifiable fact. Honest Abe frankly was not a big eater. At most meals, he would simply pick at his food. But if there is one food he had a true fondness for, it is definitely gingerbread.

      Thomas Jefferson

Gourmet, scientist, traveler, farmer, diplomat: our third president was truly a Renaissance man. He loved Parmesan cheese, French cuisine, and most of all, waffles with peaches.

      Franklin Delano Roosevelt

While Roosevelt was known to be adventurous, that apparently did not extend to food. He seems to have enjoyed his reputation as a man with simple tastes. His favorite dinners included hearty fares such as creamed chipped beef, bread pudding, but he also had a particular love of doughnuts and would eat them at breakfast and teatime.

      John Quincy Adams

Although we can not know for sure, it is said that John Quincy Adams is credited with a simple and healthy favorite of fresh fruit.

      Gerald Ford

Gerald Ford had simple tastes, though, for breakfasts, he loved to indulge in homemade waffles with strawberries and cream.

      Woodrow Wilson

Wilson's favorites included sweets such as strawberry ice cream and charlotte russe, a cold cake made of fruit and bread, sponge cake, or ladyfinger biscuits.

      Bill Clinton

There is no president in modern history whose taste for hamburgers was more well-publicized than Bill Clinton's. Clinton chased his favorite fast foods, including jalapeno cheeseburgers, chicken enchiladas, barbecue, and cinnamon rolls, years before he would experiment with veganism for his health.

      John F. Kennedy

A man of Boston, JFK's favorite lunch was a simple bowl of New England clam chowder, along with a piece of fruit and perhaps a sandwich. Similarly, he was fond of seafood, and classic Boston baked beans for his dinner.

      George W. Bush

Despite his Southern roots and the occasional Texas barbecue dinner, George W. Bush preferred homey dishes, such as biscuits, chicken pot pie, and grilled cheese. And choosing between a cheeseburger and a pizza may be one of the toughest decisions. George W. Bush is a step ahead: He likes his cheeseburgers on his pizza. What a problem solver.

      Make a Delicious Birthday Cake

A lot of people think Presidents Day is committed to celebrating all the presidents. In reality, this holiday was originally created to honor George Washington's and later Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Therefore, you can stick with the original purpose and make a tasty birthday cake in their honor. You can serve the cake on our beautiful Heart Natural Palm Leaf Eco-Friendly Disposable Plates to make it even more lovely. Or, if you have a creative baker or artist in the family, make cupcakes, serve them on some of Eco Party Warehouse's plates, bowls, or mini sample plates, and have everyone decorate their own treats with frosting in the image of their favorite president.

      Enjoy Backyard Picnic

One of the best parts about this time of year is watching spring roll in - finally, the sun shines all through lunchtime, and tiny shoots from plants and trees are making their way through the ground, providing you the perfect opportunity to get outside to enjoy these changes (especially if you are a nature lover like we are). Get out and make use of your beautiful backyard that's been forgotten all winter and create some Presidents Day-themed picnic with a little help from Eco Party Warehouse's dinnerware, servingware, and flatware for your family to enjoy together.

End the Evening in an Eco-Friendly Way

There is no better way to honor American presidents who have done so much for this country than to reduce our carbon footprint and, that way, contribute to building a better future for Americans. We have a great idea of how to end your Presidents Day Party in an eco-friendly way. Compost, compost, compost! Give your compostable waste, party's food scraps, and unwanted leftovers, and get back nutrient-rich organic matter in the form of compost, which feeds your yard, garden, and plants. Eco Party Warehouse's disposable dinnerware, servingware, and flatware sets are compostable too. Because they are made from an organic, natural source (palm leaves, sugarcane bagasse, and birch wood), they will also inherently biodegrade and breakdown to be a part of your nutrient-rich finished compost.
