Tips To Help You Eat More Environmentally Friendly

If you're passionate about cooking but concerned about the environment, here are a few things you can do to create a delicious, eco-friendly meal.

      - Eat seasonally -

That is the cardinal rule of many great food cultures. Creating a meal with ingredients that are in season in your region will produce an eco-friendly plate. While it may be tempting to pick and choose from exotic ingredients grown all over the world, your seasonally based dishes will be fresher, and they'll reduce the environmental impact of cross-country and international shipping.

      - Use organic ingredients -

Organic foods are grown naturally, without synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetic modification, or ionizing radiation. Additionally, organic farming is more environmentally sustainable - it reduces pollution and conserves water and soil.

      - Choose free-range, hormone-free, and organic animal products -

When purchasing meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy, look for food raised in an environment that supports the ethical treatment of animals, such as farms where animals are allowed outdoors and are nourished with balanced diets. Organic meats, dairy, and eggs are made from animals that are pasture-fed or given organic feed and have not been treated with antibiotics or growth hormones.

      - Go vegetarian — or even vegan -

Whether you're a true herbivore or you want to reduce the amount of animal and fish products in your daily diet, there are many ways to prepare savory and satisfying veggie-based meals.

      - Avoid extra packaging -

Whenever possible, choose minimally packaged food products, buy in bulk, bring your containers, or look for products that are packaged with environmentally sensitive materials, such as recycled paper or bio-based plastic. You don't need all that petroleum-based plastic or Styrofoam, anyway. Additionally, make an effort to bring your totes to the market instead of bringing home your goods in a bunch of flimsy, ecologically unfriendly plastic bags.

      - Compost -

When preparing your eco-friendly meal, be sure to conserve your fruit and vegetable skins, leftover pulp, and other parts, as well as any eggshells, coffee grounds, or loose tea leaves for composting. Composting allows this waste to be reused in its new form - natural fertilizer - to fortify a lawn or garden!

      - Use compostable tableware -

With growing environmental awareness, the demand for disposable tableware made from palm leaves, birch, and bagasse increases day by day. This tableware is 100% natural, biodegradable, and compostable. Plus, it is stylish and elegant and looks much fancier than disposable plastic or paper tableware.

Tips for Throwing an Eco-Friendly Halloween Party

Halloween is always a fun holiday, but it’s not hard to look around and see how scary it is for the environment. Everything involved in throwing a stunning Halloween party, from countless candy wrappers, costumes made of harmful plastics, and decorations that burn a lot of energy, can have a huge, unintended ecological impact. So, is it really possible to throw the best Halloween party on the block and still be environmentally responsible? The answer is yes - it is not only possible, but it is also relatively easy. Eco Party Warehouse has prepared fantastic ideas that may help to stimulate the necessary creativity and make your Halloween festivities a howling eco-friendly success, rather than an example of wasteful spending.

      Create a DIY Costume

The scariest part of Halloween might be what those store-bought costumes made using synthetic fibers and non-recyclable petrochemical-based plastics.  So instead of buying a Halloween costume, the perfect way to save some green while going green is to create your hallo-green masterpiece from things around the house.

      Choose Natural Face Paint

Rather than risk lifelong damage, you can have an eco-friendly Halloween by choosing natural face paint. It’s easy to make your homemade natural face paint. However, if you are pressed for time, you can also purchase organic and non-toxic face paint.

      Look for Eco-Friendly Candy Options

Rather than just grabbing the first bag of candy that you see on the shelf in the grocery store that might contain dangerous chemicals or pesticides, consider an organic chocolate candy or eco-friendly candy option instead.

      Trick-or-Treat

Avoid hard plastic jack-o-lanterns that will never breakdown in a landfill. Instead, use tote bags, reusable shopping bags, or a pillowcase to collect goodies - it is an easy way to be environmentally-friendly.

      Go for Eco-Friendly Halloween Decorations

Not only are the costumes and decorations comprised of non-combustible materials, the plastic packaging they come in only compounds their harmful impact. Rather than spend money on decorations, which will likely be thrown out in November, look for eco-friendly options instead. You can stuff old pillowcases with leaves or newspapers to turn them into homemade ghosts, or if you have black pantyhose that have a run in them, don’t throw them away - instead, use them to make spooky spider webs.

      Use Biodegradable dinnerware

Unlike paper or plastic dinnerware, Palm leaf plates are sustainable and eco-friendly as no tree is harmed to produce them. Only naturally fallen leaves are a raw material in the production. Being biodegradable, these plates won’t harm the environment or make you feel guilty trashing them.

The Best Eco-Friendly Halloween Party Treat

Can you hear the giggles of those little trick-or-treaters mischievously waiting outside your doors for some candies? Oh yes! It’s Halloween, an ultimate holiday where you can go wild with costumes, decorations, and delicious treats.

Candy goes with Halloween, for sure, but you do not have to add to the already huge environmental harm that comes from those Halloween treats you hand out to trick-or-treaters. Those giant bags of individually wrapped candies aren't healthy for our kids or our planet. Many candy wrappers from our childhood Halloween jaunts are probably still intact in landfill sites today, leaching their wasteful by-products into the soil where we grow our food and into the water that we drink. Eco-friendly Halloween candy should be as plastic-free as possible. Unfortunately, this is pretty difficult because most sweets come in plastic wrappers. However, there are alternatives available. And one of them is to make treats yourself! That is why Eco Party Warehouse has prepared a fabulous treat for you!

      HALLOWEEN SPIDER COOKIES

Our Halloween Spider Cookies are the easiest and cutest Halloween dessert ever, and the kids adore them!

      INGREDIENTS:

      • 16 Sugar Cookies (Make your own)
      • 16 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Minis
      • 36 Candy Eyes
      • 1 bag Chocolate Candy Melts

HOW TO MAKE HALLOWEEN SPIDER COOKIES:

      1. Bake cookies.
      2. As soon as you pull them from the oven, use the bottom of a teaspoon measurer and gently press a divot into the cookie.
      3. Let the cookies cool completely.
      4. Melt the candy melts and place it in an Eco-friendly Cotton Pastry Bag.
      5. Take a Reese’s and place some melted chocolate along the bottom and press the Reese’s onto the divot in the cookie.
      6. Let Reese's set and dry.
      7. Take your candy eyes and place a dab of melted chocolate on the back and place on the side of the Reese’s.
      8. Use the melted chocolate to pipe spider legs on the cookie.
      9. Let all of the chocolate dry.
      10. Serve and enjoy

      PRO-TIPS AND NOTES:

      • I used the back of a wooden spoon to make a little divot in the cookie. This gives a nice place to rest the peanut butter cup.
      • If you don’t have an eco-friendly cotton pastry bag, grab a ziplock reusable silicone bag and put the chocolate in it. Cut the bottom corner of the bag off (just a little tiny corner). This will work great too!
      • The decorating tweezers are a lifesaver. They will make putting the eyes on so much easier. They are great to have on hand for other decorating projects as well.
      • Chill the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups before you begin. It will make them much easier to work with because they won’t get all melty!

Hate to clean up after a crowd, but you still want to be eco-friendly and not use plastic bags and plastic disposable partyware? Plus, once the cookies leave your house, you really don’t have control over how their packaging is disposed of. Eco Party Warehouse has a great solution for you - Eco-Friendly Disposable Wedding Value Set.  Unique looking, sturdy, compostable, and biodegradable, this premium palm leaf set consisting of disposable buffet and salad plates, forks, knives, and spoons, also provides flexibility on what are you about to do with it after use, recycle, compost, or toss out.
